Apple Is Making a Major Change to a Popular Emoji of a Gun

Get ready for your emoji keyboard to look a little different. Starting in September, Apple will be replacing the gun emoji with a green water pistol, CNNMoney reports. Microsoft has already replaced their pistol with a toy gun, but Google, Samsung, Facebook, and Twitter still have gun emojis.
Apple's decision comes after New Yorkers Against Gun Violence started a campaign called "Disarm the iPhone," demanding Apple nix the pistol emoji as a symbol of standing up against gun violence, and to "show America wants stricter access to real guns." "Apple has stood up to the bullying tactics of the NRA and gun industry by showing that there are many more life-affirming ways to express oneself than with a gun," Leah Barrett, executive director of the group, told CNN.
Back in June, Apple, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft moved to stop a rifle emoji from being added to smartphones. According to BuzzFeed, the Unicode Consortium, the group that regulates emojis, had proposed the rifle to coincide with the Olympics, since shooting is an Olympic sport. But critics say this most recent move—outright replacing an old emoji with a different one—could retroactively change the meaning of old text messages and emails, which could be confusing for users.
The change also comes with the addition of many more gender-diverse emojis, like women working out and men getting their hair cut. If you use an Android phone, those emojis will also hit your phone soon, too.

Types of New Gadgets That Will Define 2016

Kids toys are getting more creative with technology.

Sure, kids can pick up a tablet or smartphone, but the true innovative toys are those that combine high tech and simplicity. The Moff band collaboration with Pac-Man is a perfect example of this. Kids wear the Moff band and swing their arms to play Pac-Man through an app — making them physically active while using a smartphone or tablet.

CES 2016: Smart gadgets for all the family - and dog

Collection of smart devices: fridge, watch and shoe
Everything these days is prefixed with the word "smart" and nowhere is that more in evidence than at CES .
One manufacturer is even offering a smart water bottle. Lifefuels won an award at the tech show for the bottle with "five interchangeable "fuelpods" filled with vitamins, nutritional products and flavours, allowing users to tailor their water to suit their specific lifestyles".
Why anyone would need such a product is open to debate but it does raise the question about what "smart" really means.

Smart water bottleFor many firms, a so-called smart device is just something connected to the internet but Adam Simon, an analyst with research firm Context, thinks it should be about more.
"The real question is - what can you do with it? What is it actually doing to help you in your life?"

European home-owners are still reluctant to invest in smart tech - 19% of Britons said that they would buy one smart gadget in the next year and, even then, it would have to cost no more than £150.
The BBC has been looking at some of the smart tech on offer for the family home at CES.

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 Launches With an Iris Scanner

The Samsung Galaxy Note7 is now official. The latest iteration of the phone that started the phablet craze back in 2011 replaces the Galaxy Note5 on top of Samsung's Android smartphone lineup. The company deliberately skipped a model number in order to bring the device's naming in line with the Samsung Galaxy S7 product family.
