THE MODERN ARTS NOTES PODCAST

Episode No. 242 of The Modern Art Notes Podcast features artists Matthew Ronay and Arlene Shechet.
Ronay is the subject of two exhibitions at American museums: The Blaffer Art Gallery at the University of Houston is showing an eponymous survey of Ronay’s work. Curated by Blaffer director Claudia Schmuckli, it’s on view through October 1. The Perez Art Museum Miami, formerly known as the Miami Art Museum, is showing a Ronay installation in its projects space through January 15, 2017. It was curated by Diana Nawi.
Ronay was in the 2013 Lyon Biennial, and has been included in group shows at SculptureCenter in New York, Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City and the Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City. His work is in the collections of MoMA, LACMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Henry Art Gallery, and more.
The second segment is an excerpt from host Tyler Green’s 2015 conversation with Arlene Shechet on the occasion of her mid-career survey at the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston. The Frick Collection in New York has asked Shechet to curate an installation of works from a promised collection of Royal Meissen porcelain, and to include her own work, made from molds Meissen made available to Shechet when she was an artist-in-residence there, in the exhibition. The show, “Porcelain, No Simple Matter: Arlene Shechet and the Arnhold Collection,” will be on view through April 2, 2017
